Welcome to our new intern!
By Krista Sarraf
When you start a community writing program, you can only hope that its mission will touch people around the world. So, you can imagine our excitement when Maya Koparkar from McGill University (that’s in Canada, folks) inquired about an internship with Write Local. When I spoke to Maya through Skype, her absolute passion for writing shone through. This is a woman who knows the power of the pen and is out to change the world, and we’re lucky to have her as a Write Local intern this semester.
Please join me in welcoming Maya Koparkar, an 18-year old university student with a passion for writing and sharing what she has to say with the world. Maya will tackle graphic design projects this semester and will be the main voice on the Write Local blog.
After living and volunteering all over the world, she has settled down in Montreal where she is studying International Development at McGill University.
In Maya’s words, she “wishes to see writing becoming more appreciated in the mainstream arts scene” as she “knows what a tremendous impact it can have on people’s lives, especially with the development of young minds.”
In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, reading, and volunteering in her local community. She also writes her own blog on the side (www.chlorinatedmind.tumblr.
